The Nigeria/ Equatorial Guinea International School (NEGIS) was established on the 16th November, 1991 by then Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida.
The school was established to;
· Foster the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea Governments.
· Encourage young Guineans who want to continue their studies in English Language.
· Contribute positively to the Educational development of the Country.
· Improve human capital development.
The school has 80 staff presently with the students/ pupils’ population of about 1,280. It makes use of scheme of work from the Education Resource Centre-Abuja (ERC). The ERC scheme of work has made it possible for the students here to compete favorably with their Nigerian counterparts and the major language of communication is English Language.
The school was only at primary level and named Nigeria Embassy Primary school until 1990. It was relocated to its permanent site at Rebola Road, Ela Nguema in 1991, when it was established and commissioned by the then Head of State of Nigeria General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida .
Today, it has risen up to Nursery, primary, junior and Senior Secondary levels. For the fact of the school being outside Nigeria, it has sent six –set of SSS 3 to Nigeria for their WASSCE/NECO Examination.
NEGIS has produced successful numbers of people in different fields; some have occupied positions of repute in Equatorial Guinea, United States of America, Spain, France, etc.
With the unrelenting effort of the management and staff of NEGIS in conjunction with PT.A board, the school can now boast of standard laboratory that will enable science student to be exposed to more of practical. The school got the NECO accreditation in year 2016 and 18 student wrote the exam, which will enable them to gain admission into any university in the world. Also, the school got WAEC accreditation this year 2017 as WAEC Centre. Recently, 60 students registered and wrote WAEC exam this year. Also, 22 students wrote NECO examination this same year. Currently 40 students had registered for 2018 WAEC this year.
a. STAFF STRENGTH: The school has presently 26 non-teaching staff (4 management staff, 3 security, 3 driver, 1 gardener, 4 cleaners, 2 office clerk, 1 Secretary, 1 Admin Officer and 7 Nursery attendants) and 49 teaching staff (14 Secondary Teachers, 21 Primary Teachers, 14 Nursery Teachers) that is, 75 staff in total, in which 70% are Nigerians, 30% from Equatorial Guinea and other neighbouring countries such as Cameroon and Ghana.
b. SCHOOL POPULATION: The population of the school is 1,295. Nigeria/Guinea Equatorial International School has an edge over its counterpart in terms of population due to its high standard and progressive effort for improvements.
